Brewing Ratios:

Brewing ratios are about manipulating the strength and yield to achieve the greatest cup of coffee possible. It is also the variable which is most subjective to personal taste and as such, there is no one correct value. Most consumers use a ratio of coffee beans to water somewhere between 1:15 and 1:18, but feel free to experiment outside of this range.

Understanding a ratio is quite simple. If you have 1 grams of coffee and 1 gram of water, the ratio of coffee to water is 1:1. If you have 1 gram of coffee and 15 grams of water, the ratio is 1:15. Flower Power Coffee is available in packets of 28 grams. To maintain a 15:1 ratio, the math is as follows:

28 grams  of coffee  x  15  =  420 grams of water

Remember, 420 grams of water is what is added to the coffee and NOT what you put into your kettle when you boil it (since some of the water will evaporate). If you find that the coffee is too strong for your liking, simply multiply by 16 instead and add 448 grams of water.

Finding the correct ratio for your brewing needs is fairly simple. It just requires precise measurements and experimentation. Don't be discouraged if your first few cups of coffee don't come out perfect - the trial-and-error is what makes coffee brewing fun!
